Homework is an integral part of education in that it:
- Promotes students’ self-discipline and personal responsibility for learning and organisation.
- Reinforces work started in class, extending knowledge and understanding.
- Gives opportunities to practise and develop skills.
- Allows parents to become involved in their child’s learning.
- Is valuable in ensuring students’ progress and raising achievement.

The role of students
- Take responsibility for learning and submit completed work in a timely manner.
- Make sure they understand the tasks that have been set and seek clarification if required.
- Take pride in the presentation and content of their Home Learning and perform to a high standard.
Students who fail to complete Home Learning
- All students are expected to complete Home Learning on time and to a high standard.
- The completion of Home Learning is compulsory. Failure to complete or hand in Home Learning will be treated as a serious issue and sanctions will be imposed.
- Where there are issues with Home Learning, parents are encouraged to contact the relevant teacher.
The role of parents in supporting their child
To support your child’s academic progress we urge parents to:
- Provide a peaceful place in which their child can do their Home Learning, or encourage them to attend Home Learning clubs.
- Make it clear to their child that they value Home Learning.
- Encourage their child and praise them when they have completed Home Learning.
- Expect deadlines to be met and check that they are.
- Check and sign their child’s planner each week.
Students with Special Educational Needs
- We recognise that students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) may require that specific tasks be set that are consistent with a student’s Individual Education Plans.
- While students with SEND may benefit from special tasks separate from the Home Learning received from other students, it is important that they also do as much in common with other students.
- A balanced amount of the right type of Home Learning will be set for students with SEND, in consultation with the parents and the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator.
