Outstanding performance from Rivers GCSE students August 2017

Excellent GCSE results August 2017

Staff at Rivers Academy are, once again, delighted for Year 11 students who collect their GCSE results this week.

We would like to congratulate Year 11 students whose results are amongst our best and whose accomplishments are to be celebrated across all abilities.

Thank you on behalf of Rivers Academy students to all staff who have been absolute heroes having taught, guided and supported them throughout their secondary education.

As has been much publicised,  this academic year saw the introduction of new style GCSEs in English Language, English Literature and maths, with numbered grades  9-1 replacing grades A*-G.

The new examinations in these subjects are both more demanding and the most substantial reform in a quarter of a century to the GCSEs in England. Both the content and structure of the new GCSEs are very different from those they are replacing.  The continued successes of students in these subjects are testament to the dedication of staff who ensure that they remain at the forefront of developments in their subject specialisms.

A very pleasing 80% of Year 11 students achieved a 4 or above in English and 63% achieved 4 or above in Maths. 56% of students achieved a grade 5 or above in English and 41% in maths.

Across all Year 11 subject entries, we were delighted to see 14% rewarded with the very best grades having achieved grade 7 or above or the equivalent A*-A grade and 40% rewarded with grades 9-5 or A*-B. A*-C or 9-7 was 67%, an 11% improvement on last year’s results.

This summer also sees the first awards of the prestigious grade 9 in GCSE English language, English literature and maths. Grade 9 is not the same as A*; it is an entirely new grade, designed to recognise the very highest performing students.   We are delighted to be congratulating some incredible successes at this level.

GCSEs are a milestone in a student’s life and serve as the stepping stone into further study at Post 16 or college. We are looking forward to welcoming back a large proportion of Year 11 students who will continue their studies in our thriving Post 16 at Rivers Academy.

We wish each of our students every happiness in the future and we are confident that their determination to succeed will enable all of them to continue successfully with their personal journeys.
